Looking back to 2024

The first full year of operation of the CERN Science Gateway has been a real success!

In 2024, we welcomed almost 390,000 visitors from over 171 countries. After only 15 months of operation, CERN Science Gateway is now one of the top 10 most visited tourist attractions in Switzerland.

We are closed until 7 January

CERN Science Gateway and the Globe of science and innovation are closed on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 January due to annual tests and maintenance. They will also be closed on Monday 6 January like any other Monday.

We look forward to welcoming you again as from Tuesday 7 January for another exciting year of science and discovery.

Meet Leïla Haegel

Studying nature through the lens of science and art

Leïla Haegel, a particle physicist focused on studying neutrinos, will be a panelist at the upcoming Danser avec l'Évolution event on 19 November at CERN Science Gateway. Her passion for fundamental science, outreach and the arts comes together in this event, where she will discuss the origins of the Universe and human evolution. Based at the Institute of Physics of the 2 Infinities of Lyon (France), Leïla is also a user at CERN and a member of the CERN Alumni Network.

An evening with Al Gore

Global challenges and the role of science

Join us for a remarkable evening with Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States of America. On the 8th of November 2024, at 19:30, Al Gore will deliver a compelling presentation at CERN Science Gateway.

Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2007, jointly with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for his pioneering work to put the climate crisis on the political agenda and create awareness worldwide that action has to be taken to meet this global challenge.

Curious connections

Due to maintenance work, the temporary exhibition “Dialogues insolites” will be closed this Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

The Museum comes to CERN

What do the feathers of an Eider duck have to do with survival blankets? Can scientists follow the tracks left by particles like they can those of dinosaurs? Did you know that ants form large collaborative communities, just like humans?
