Between 2007 and 2018, the Foundation for the Globe of Science and Innovation helped to run and operate the Globe. It promoted the development of projects designed to pass on knowledge to the public in the fields of science, particle physics and leading-edge technologies, and their applications in everyday life.
In 2018, the Foundation for the Globe of Science and Innovation and the CERN & Society Foundation decided to join forces to become one single entity. The enlarged CERN & Society Foundation will have an even greater impact in its mission to spread the CERN spirit of scientific curiosity, for the inspiration and benefit of society. The current activities of the CERN & Society Foundation in the areas of Education & Outreach, Innovation & Knowledge Exchange, and Culture & Creativity will now be enhanced by the inclusion of the Globe of Science and Innovation, notably as a venue for scientific exhibitions, conferences, meetings and debates open to the public. The CERN & Society Foundation will also support the future developments of the Globe’s infrastructure and, in particular, the capital campaign for the Science Gateway, an iconic new education centre to be located in the area around the Globe.
